Making mosaics

Mosaic making at Southwark cathedral

Last Thursday, we stopped by Southwark cathedral, which borders the Thames river and London Bridge.

From this historical place from this historical borough, we were to investigate the Romans' influence on Britain, and more particularly their artistic influence, that can be seen in the numerous mosaics they left behind for archeologists to find.

After a very quick discovery of the inside of the cathedral, and a short introduction to its history and some of its most famous mosaics, we quickly went to work on our own pieces of art.

At this stage, though, we were still "apprentices" in mosaic making. Always aiming for more, we then headed to another room, to make of our newfound talents.

The results were pretty impressive, and you are all invited to have a look at it, by going to our Flickr page, and don't hesitate to tell us your thoughts about the day in the comments!
