Cooking à la romaine

Roman cooking in 3 Blue

In topic, we are still learning about the Romans and, among other things, the ways their lifestyle differed from ours. We've had a look at their clothing, their games, their alphabet, and today, their cooking.

Of course, we weren't about to fire up the oven for a whole, wealthy Roman buffet.

Sadly, not what we had in mind

So, instead, we had a look at the typical meal a Roman slave might have had on a typical day. Rather frugal, to say the least, but pretty stodgy (enough to last you a whole day).

So, we set out to cook our own Roman slave meal, which turned out to be some sort of porridge. While it may not have been too appetizing on first glance, it wasn't that bad, according to most of 3 Blue.

How would you describe your experience of that tasty bowl of porridge?
Would you be able to stand eating that every day?
